So begins a series on why 'The Heart is Central' to everything in Scripture. Most of us have been taught a Platonic view of the self, that we are reason and emotion, head and... heart. And that is not helpful, nor is it accurate.
The heart is the centre of the soul, everything we are and are meant to be in Jesus is connected to the heart. It is the seat of our will, intellect, emotions, imagination, our conscience, creativity, and self-consciousness, our memories, mindset at any given moment, and identity as men or women, masculine or feminine. It is precisely what Jesus came to redeem, restore, and renew in His image.
While the mind is helpful, the heart is central. We cannot live without it-- full and free, whole and holy.
