Jesus commands us as His Followers in Matthew 7:1-5, just before outlining our incredible need for discernment in v. 6, to cease our unjust judging of everybody else from the lofty perch of self-righteous arrogance and critical condemnation. Pointing out, and with incredible accuracy, how difficult an operation it is to remove a "speck of sawdust" from a co-worker's eye while a 2 x 10 is sticking out of your own.
Remove the tree from in front of your own face, Jesus is saying, then you might see the forest clearly and be of some help to those around you! This is a message we never cease to need.
