At first glance, Genesis 38 looks like a strange insertion into the divine narrative, but at closer look it fits the context of 'what God can do with shattered lives' perfectly. It tells the story of Jacob's son Judah, the one through whom the Messiah and Ruler of Israel would come, and his dealings with a daughter in law named Tamar.
